Trenching Extends Gold Mineralization

Kena Property -- Gold Mountain Zone

Sultan Minerals Inc. (SUL-cdnx) is pleased to announce that a small trenching program on its Kena Property, located near Nelson in southeastern British Columbia, has successfully extended the recently discovered Gold Mountain gold mineralization. Two trenches, excavated at 8+40N exposed the favourable Rossland volcanic unit and Silver King Porphyry intrusive. Both rock units are well altered and mineralized with pyrite where seen in the trenches.

These new trenches are located 260 metres south of last fall's "discovery" trenches on line 11+00N (see News Releases dated November 22, 2000 and December 8, 2000) and are centred over the induced polarization chargeability high, that passes through the discovery. Trench 01TR-01 hit water making poor sampling conditions, however elevated gold values were encountered over its entire 18 metre length (gold assays average 0.3 g/t over 18 metres). Trench 01TR-02, which crossed the volcanic-intrusive contact returned an average of 1.28 g/t gold over its entire 24 metre length. The trench terminated in 2.35 g/t gold mineralization where it intersected and could not be extended beyond a major logging haul-road. The table below details the three metre wide chip sample results:

TRENCH NO. FROM TO WIDTH AU (g/t)
              (metres) (metres) (metres)
01TR-02 0 3 3 0.26
01TR-02 3 6 3 1.75
01TR-02 6 9 3 2.04
01TR-02 9 12 3 1.29
01TR-02 12 15 3 0.75
01TR-02 15 18 3 1.42
01TR-02 18 21 3 0.39
01TR-02 21 24 3 2.35

Sultan is extremely encouraged by these results which significantly expand the size potential of the Gold Mountain Zone. Diamond drilling, currently under way in the "discovery" area along line 11+00N, is coring the fourth hole. The intrusive rock intersected in the first three drill holes appears well altered and carries abundant sulfide mineralization. Assays are pending.
