Diamond Drill Contract Signed Kena Gold Project, BC

Sultan Minerals Inc. (SUL-cdnx) is pleased to announce that the 2001 exploration program is now underway on its Kena Property, located near Nelson in southeastern British Columbia. Exploration work will focus on the Gold Mountain Zone discovery made in 2000.

The Gold Mountain Zone is a porphyry style gold target located within a 12 kilometre long, Jurassic age intrusive body referred to as the Silver King Porphyry. In October 2000, prospecting and trenching discovered significant gold values across wide widths within the Silver King Porphyry (see News Releases dated Nov. 1, 2000 and Dec 8, 2000). Subsequent exploration showed the "discovery area" lies within a strong gold soil geochemical anomaly measuring 2,100 x 650 metres which is coincident with a strong induced polarization geophysical anomaly.

The Gold Mountain mineralization exhibits classic porphyry style alteration and represents a unique gold porphyry system. Petrographic (thin section) studies recently completed by Kamloops Geological Services identified visible gold in several Silver King Porphyry samples collected from the discovery trenches. Gold grains range from 5 to greater than 100 microns in size and occur as free gold in quartz or as gold grains along the boundaries of pyrite crystals. The relationship between gold, deformed quartz and pyrite indicates that the gold mineralization is early and accompanied veining and alterations within a zoned intrusive.

Sultan believes that the Gold Mountain Zone represents a unique deposit type with, excellent size potential and excellent infrastructure. A power line, gas line, rail bed, paved highway and a network of new logging roads cross the property.

The initial phase of this year's exploration program is budgeted for $150,000 and will consist of detailed geological mapping, trenching and diamond drilling in the Gold Mountain Zone "discovery area". Also, reconnaissance exploration will continue throughout the length of the 12 kilometre long favourable Silver King Porphyry unit.

The Company has contracted Westgate Diamond Drilling Ltd. of Salmo, BC to complete 1000 metres of diamond drilling planned for the initial program. Drilling will commence in the "discovery area" of the Gold Mountain Zone on June 4, 2001. Assay results from the initial drill holes are expected by early July.
